Description
aus einer Totentanzhandschrift
Provenance
The manuscript 'Kasseler oder Mittelrheinischer Totentanz', originally with at least 37 miniatures, had 35 miniatures before the Second World War. During the British bombing raid on Kassel in 1941, the binding was damaged and some leaves were deformed by the heat. The manuscript was sent to Berlin for restoration in 1942, but was not restored there. After the capitulation in 1945, it was captured by US soldiers, but part of it was sent to the Central Collecting Point in Munich. It was returned to the State Library by a cultural officer. However, it was discovered that 9 of the precious paintings had been lost.
