Painting

The original manuscript, which contained at least 37 miniatures, was known as the “Kassel or Middle Rhine Dance of Death” and still had 35 miniatures before the Second World War. During the British bombing of Kassel in 1941, the binding was damaged and some pages were warped by the heat. After the manuscript was returned to Kassel, it was discovered that nine of the precious images had disappeared.
