About the person
Adolf Otto Herz was born in Mainz, Germany on 19 September, 1870. Johanna Mandelbaum is born in Mannheim, Germany on 26 April, 1879. They marry on 3 June, 1911. On 1 November, 1917, their son Richard Herz is born.
From 1910, Adolf Herz is the owner with Bernhard Weis of the private bank Weis, Herz u. Co., with its headquarters at Bahnhofstrasse 8, Mainz. A limited partnership, it is closely linked to the private bank Mitteldeutsche Kreditbank. This bank opens a branch at Schillerplatz 3, a renowned business address in Mainz, with Adolf Herz and Bernhard Weis as its directors. The bank merges with the Commerz und Privatbank AG in 1929.
On 27 September, 1942 Adolf and Johanna are deported to Theresienstadt. On 27 November, Adolf dies. On 2 January, 1943, Johanna dies.
Their extensive property, including much artwork including two Cezanne still life oil paintings, cannot be found after the war.
Adolf’s tax ID was 88/639 and it is possible some of his possessions might have been marked with this number.
