Description

signed and dated left below: Lovis Corinth 1922

according to Inventory Dr. Bernhard Stephan (1930): The deep blue water above which white waves light up and the view through a group of trees on the left in the foreground spatially, in which yellow, red and white polka dots with strongly blooming power, lowers from the left, deep green to dark violet, the mountain slope, crowned by the white of the clouds and high peaks. The colour of the image is flooded by a warm violet mood, which melts together as if in a single breath that flows from the excitement of giving sensation.

According to catalogue of paintings by Charlotte Berend-Corinth (1958/1992): In the foreground the roofs of Urfeld. The lake blue, with small, bright foam crowns. In the background summits of snow-capped mountains.
