Provenance
The painting was created at the Górski estate in Wola Pękoszewska. In 1904, it was purchased from the TZSP exhibition by Bogusław Herse (1872–1943), a Warsaw-based entrepreneur; in 1907, it was still in his possession. Subsequently, and until 1939, it was part of Gustaw Wertheim’s collection, housed in Warsaw and Konstancin. After the outbreak of the Second World War and the murder of Mr. Wertheim’s wife by the Gestapo, Mr. Wertheim committed suicide. The couple’s villa, Julisin, was seized by Ludwig Fischer, Governor of the Warsaw District. The collection was looted before the end of the war. The painting is believed to be in a private collection in Germany today.
