Description
A chalice made of colorless glass, with a solid round base rising steeply to form the shaft, faceted lengthwise, set above a ring disc with small cut olives and a tall, cup-shaped bowl. The exterior is decorated by hand in colored enamel painting with a shield, on which is a four-leaf clover surrounded by laurel leaves, bearing the inscription "Das heil bringende Kleeblatt / Alexander / Fr. Wilhelm / Franz / Pr. Reg. Georg [die vier Namen jeweils auf einem der Blätter] / 1814", the rim is fire finished. The manufacturer cannot be identified without reservation. While the date of production can be clearly determined, the origin can only be specified as “German” or “Bohemian.” The beautiful quality suggests the latter.
Provenance
Formerly Museum Neuruppin, former Zieten Collection (number 604a). During the Second World War, parts of the collection were moved to locations including the Neuruppin District Office and have been considered lost since the end of the war.
