Description
A pensive farmer sits propped up on a barrel, holding the pipe in one hand and the empty pitcher in the other one; behind him, a young man of depraved appearance goes by; in the background, on the left, there are card players; a brown jug stands on the floor; the fine handling of chiaroscuro and the tempered cheery colors of the main figure are worthy of the master, although perhaps they are lacking ultimate refinement.
Provenance
1935 in the Ducal Museum, Oberlichtsaal 2 (file 3405); 1943 still in the museum (catalog 1943, p. 78); since then whereabouts unknown
