Description

A domestic scene is depicted on a cold winter's day. The fire is blazing in the fireplace. At the table, a couple is passing the time with a board game, in the left foreground with a card game. The open door on the left provides an unobstructed view of the surrounding winter landscape, where farmers are cutting and bundling wood. The cartouche in the lower border contains the zodiac sign Pisces. A signature or mark is not recognisable in the visible area, but could be on the border at the bottom, which is covered by the wooden trim

According to the inventory of the Hofbettmeisterey 1769: 4.295 m height, width not recorded as not used during initial assembly. The height measurement generally given in the written sources as 7 cubits 14 inches, i.e. 4.295 m, is to be regarded as ideal. It can be assumed that there were differences of at least ± 10 cm.

Provenance
The tapestry was in the Dresden Castle, Small Dining Hall, east wing, 2nd floor, until 1942; On August 16/17, 1943, the 8 tapestry rolls were transported to Schleinitz Palace, as an inspection on June 8, 1943 led to the conclusion that the rooms in the Green Vault were not sufficiently protected against bombing; A loss in connection with the events of WWII cannot be ruled out (according to the files, loss at the relocation site).
