Study of a farmer
Adalbert (Bela) Parlagi acquired the painting from the Albert Kende auction house in Vienna at the sale, S. Kende auction house in Vienna at the sale of Privatsammlung und antiken Wohnungs-Einrichtung asu dem Besitze L. u. A. Satori, on November April 29-30, 1936 (Lot 265).
In April 1938, Parlagi and his family emigrated from Vienna to London via Switzerland; December 7, 1938, Parlagi put his art collection into storage with the shipping company Zdenko Dworak at their warehouse located in Vienna XVIII, Gersthoferstrasse 8 & 10; the Gestapo confiscated Parlagi’s property from the warehouse and auctioned it through the Vugesta at the Dorotheum in Vienna; the painting was acquired by Curt Valentin at the Dorotheum sale of June 17-20, 1941 (Lot 189).
