Description
Profile view of Carl Gottlob Wilke (1796–1875), hat manufacturer from Guben, seen from the left, wearing sideburns and traditional civilian dress. Based on the signature ‘48. Kullrich a. n. fec.’, this is an early work by the renowned medallist Friedrich Wilhelm Kullrich (1821–1887).
Provenance
Formerly the Guben City Museum. Parts of the collection were apparently evacuated to Kossar (today: Kosierz) in 1942/43. The part of the collection that remained in Guben is said to have been looted between 1945 and 1948 and has been considered lost ever since.
