Description
Half-length portrait of Johann Heinrich Keller (1646-1693) as a young man of about 31. In his left hand he carries a cane with a silver top. He wears his brown hair curled at shoulder length with a dark doublet over a white lace chemise. The shoulder pads and doublet sleeves are decorated in ochre. He is wearing a striking lace jabot with an ochre-colored bow. At the top left of the picture the inscription: L. de Kaey fecit A° 1677 with a coat of arms (hand holding a goblet). Reverse: Johan Henrich Keller, Aetatis 31 A° 1677.
Holding
Ahnengalerie, Familie Keller
Provenance
The painting is part of the Keller family's ancestral gallery, the originals of which were stored at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz during the Second World War by the last owner, Dr. Robert Keller (1866-1958). The family genealogy indicates that the painting was probably stolen. Loss as a result of events during the Second World War cannot be ruled out.; Whereabouts unknown.
