Acquired from Hamburg before 1723 for the painting collection of Elector Friedrich August I (also King August II of Poland); initially taken to the Albertinum in Dresden during the Second World War, from there most likely to one of the storage depots; missing since 1945; returned to the Gemäldegalerie from private ownership in 2023
