Depicted are Helene Lilien's maternal grandparents: on the left Emma Isler née Meyer 03.11.1816 Dessau - 22.06.1886 Hamburg, and on the right Meyer Isler 14.12.1807 Hamburg - 11.08.1886 Hamburg.

The illustrations are not the originals, but photos of a copy of both paintings. The copy was painted by Helene Lilien.
