Description
Copy after Griffier's "Amusements on the Ice" in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Brunswick (inventory no. 408); a plain near a river, covered in deep snow; a mill and a village in the centre, a castle and a city on the right, surmounted by a cloudy winter's evening sky; the Dutch landscape with its pale snow and the greenish shades in the sky and on the ice, which gradually pass into darkness, is minutely executed; a lot of figures - a baker's stall on the left, under an oak, skaters, hunters etc. - are colourful and set in rather apruptly.
