Description
Two overdoor paintings with landscapes; it remains unclear what type of landscape depiction was involved. It can be assumed that Thiele paintings were used as overdoors, as there is evidence of this in the surrounding rooms (rooms 522, 523 and 544). There is evidence that these two paintings in the room remained in situ and became state property. They were part of the architectural design and, like the surrounding rooms, are likely to have had carved and poliment-gilded frames, so-called “Thiele frames”.
Provenance
Listed in inventory catalogue no. 1 of 31 January 1920 as part of the 1924 settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal house, which were transferred to the state as a room inventory marked in red; In the specifications for salvage, Prof. Fichtner's report to the Reich Governor on 27 December 1943 under point 6 the removal of the overdoors was specified. The overdoors were removed to the relocation site at Zottewitz Castle near Priestewitz; According to the records, they were lost at the relocation site.
