Description
Framed. Elderly man with hat and pipe aboard a barge carrying sacks of salt. Mirow's interpretation of the scene as fraudulent salt removal does not appear convincing. It seems more likely to be a case of refilling the sacks.
Provenance
Formerly the Guben City Museum. Parts of the collection were apparently evacuated to Kossar (today: Kosierz) in 1942/43. The part of the collection that remained in Guben is said to have been looted between 1945 and 1948 and has been considered lost ever since.
