Cattle and people on bare, cut-up earth. In the foreground on the right, a man in a black hat and a woman with her distaff sit side by side on the ground. On the hill above, five people and an ox. On the left, a hunter with three dogs, a river in the distance.

Acquired in 1742 by Riedel from Prague for the painting collection of King August III; 1937 on loan to the then district headquarters in Chemnitz; during the Second World War removed to Rübenau near Olbernhau, after the end of the war probably taken to the general's flat for decoration at the request of the Russian command; missing since 1945; 18. 1.1984 Christie's auction, New York, privately owned; 1985 Kunsthandlung Galerie Hoogsteder, The Hague; privately owned, Europe; 7.7.1989 Christie's auction, London; privately owned, Netherlands; 8.5.1995 Christie's auction, Amsterdam; privately owned, Netherlands; returned to the Gemäldegalerie in October 2023 as a gift from Willem Jan Hoogsteder, The Hague
