Description
The dead body of Christ with outstretched arms is represented as sitting / supporting. On the right side, Mary Magdalene or the Virgin Mary keeps one end of the cloth holding the body of Christ. Stretching above him, carrying out a mourning gesture, is the Evangelist John. Next to him, on the left side of the picture, kneels a male figure (Joseph of Arimathia or Nicodemus). The Spanish or Italian painter was heavily influenced in his composition by van Dyck.
