Description
A frontal portrait of a gentleman with a broad twirled moustache, his fixed gaze slightly to the right, passing the viewer; dressed in a tight-fitting dark, probably black tuxedo jacket with large silk(?) lapels, a white shirt with stand-up collar underneath, and a tied dark bow tie. In the lower part the picture ends in a wide-angled, asymmetrical triangular shape, applied in the manner of a dot.
Signed bottom right with the sigle "E. G."
Provenance
old family property; before 1942 Wolfsburg Palace (until 1932 Gardelegen County, Province of Saxony; then Gifhorn County, Province of Hanover; today City of Wolfsburg); then moved to the newly built Neumühle Palace near Tangeln, municipality of Beetzendorf in the Altmark County of Salzwedel, location there: "Study of the master of the house"; in 1945 the von der Schulenburg family fled from their palace in Neumühle, leaving behind almost all their belongings; Neumühle Palace was assigned to the Soviet occupation zone and expropriated; whereabouts unknown
