Description
Beaker made of colorless glass over lacing on a slightly rising foot. The base of the bowl is faceted and polished, the wall bears a finely carved decoration depicting a saint in a Franciscan habit on a landscape base with a mitre and cross staff, holding the papal insignia, a crucifix with lilies growing out of it, standing under a canopy and surrounded by small scrollwork. The depicted figure is presumably Anthony of Padua, who is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. The lily is his attribute. The shape of the cup and the type of decoration, in which virtually no wall surface remains undecorated, are typical of workshops in Hermsdorf or Warmbrunn in Silesia around 1750.
Provenance
Formerly the Lübben local history museum. The collection was probably transferred to an inner-city relocation site in 1945. Probably lost during the war in 1945.
