Description
Signed above the left shoulder: snake as the artist's signet and the year "1522"; half-figure facing right on a green background; all later portraits of the elector hark back to this portrait of Frederick the Wise - which was also the last produced by Cranach - with moustache and beret.
Provenance
1935 exhibited in the reorganized exhibition (file 3405); still present in the museum in 1943 (catalog 1943, bl. 255); current location: private collection in Great Britain.
