Description

inscribed lower right: H M P (together) 1919; from left to right sloping hillside with pine trees, deep red, blue and blue-green the trunks on the ground glowing in green, yellow-red and violet. Dark blue sky through the pine tufts gathered into green cobs;

According to the information in A. Soika's catalogue raisonné of Max Pechstein's paintings under the WVZ number 1919/29 "Pine forest", the painting described under WVZ 1919/29 is similar to the description of the painting "Forest" entered in the Littmann collection inventory under no. 251. Quote from catalogue raisonné Soika, no. 1919/29 ("Pine forest"): "The painting resembles the picture description of 'Forest' in the Littmann collection inventory." (with ill.). A work identity can therefore not be established beyond doubt, but cannot be ruled out either.
