Description
The teacher is sitting at his teacher's desk cutting a quill pen. Left side a girl holding a sheet of paper, left in front a boy. Right, in a corner a sitting girl, two boys behind her, one of them grabing for the teachers cap. In the background a lot of boys at tables and on benches, making lot of non-sense. At the right bottom, on side of the stool signed: J. Steen. Golden frame. At backside a stamp of seal: Galerie Sedelmeyer, Paris. Allegedly was 1768 in collection of Werman Rotterdam. Maybe identical with picture of colletion H. Stockvisch, Amsterdam. Auction 1823. Collection Herzog of Bedford, auction 1827, London. Auction Galerie Sedelmeyer, Paris 1907, Nr. 175.
