Description
Domed foot made from punched silver on a flat sheet silver base plate; the foot is decorated at its base with nine embossed oval medallions, six of which show stamped cherub heads and the other three baroque rosettes, each with six rays; the upper surface of the foot is set with three stamped cherub heads between foliage; the three-sided, cast node is decorated with cherub heads at the edges, fruit garlands and acanthus ornaments; the beaker-shaped, inwardly gilded cup is set into a semicircular shell made from punched, open-work sheet silver, which also shows three cherub heads between oblong baroque ornaments; signed under the base plate: "CS".
Provenance
Acquired by duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha at Korfu and gifted to the museum in 1895.
