Description

Shape:

Footless, oval pot, so-called ginger jar, with horizontal shoulder and short neck; flat cover without knob.

Décor:

Four ogival fields on blue ground, painted in famille verte style; finely painted golden tendrils and rosettes of flowers on the ground of the outside and the cover; the cartouche of the front shows a bizarrely shaped, stylised rock, surrounded by gnarled branches bearing magnificent flowers; the rock probably bears a nest-like structure on which a bird sits, a similar one looks down on the nest from a high branch; the cover bears two fan-shaped fields with flowering branches; a round beetle with slightly splayed legs is noticeable in the visible field on the right.

Manufacturer's mark: underglaze blue AR monogram

Comment:

The historical photograph shows a large fireing crack. The crack can be considered an individual characteristics.

Provenance
Dresden Castle, tower room; the collection of porcelain, together with the carpets, furnishings from the porcelain gallery and scientific material (10 boxes), was relocated to 16 different locations in a total of 1211 boxes. The relocation sites, some of which were castles and manor houses, served as refugee accommodation after 1945. As part of the collection was later offered for sale by private individuals or found in private estates, it is assumed that some of the losses were due to looting and destruction. According to the loss report for the porcelain collection from 1991, a partial transport to the Soviet Union cannot be ruled out.
