Description
A gilt silver skull-shaped beaker, with a snake motive. The snake holds an apple in its mouth. Memento-Mori symbolism of the Baroque. Engraved inscription: Dedekindisches Ahndänkken der Stärblichkeit. 1714. / Gestern galts mihr heute gilts dihr. From the property of the Kramer's Guild. Dresden assay mark, numberd 12 and a maker's mark.
Provenance
Until May 1945, the object was kept in the Dresden City Hall (seat of the Dresden City Museum). It was stored there together with the other handicraft exhibits of the museum - packed in boxes - in the cellar. Lost since the end of the war.
