Description
The portrait of a woman aged approx. 40 to 50 years old, the upper part of her body turned slightly to the left, her face slightly to the right, almost frontal; she is wearing a light-coloured bustier dress with a lace trimming framing the upper part of her body and a stiff velvet cloak billowing over her right arm; under the décolleté a large breast clasp set with precious stones, as well as a pearl necklace tightly wrapped around the neck in the style of Venetian portraits since the time of Veronese; a rose blossom at the lower right.
Provenance
Old family property; before 1942 Wolfsburg Castle (until 1932 Gardelegen County, Province of Saxony; then Gifhorn County, Province of Hanover; today Wolfsburg City); then moved to the newly built Neumühle Castle near Tangeln, municipality of Beetzendorf in the Altmark County of Salzwedel, where it is located: "Hall, 2nd upper floor". Last documented by historical photograph in Wolfsburg Castle; left behind in 1945 during the flight from Neumühle Castle before it was taken over by the Red Army; Neumühle Castle was assigned to the Soviet occupation zone and expropriated; whereabouts unknown
