The painting was acquired in 1824 as a donation by Ferdinand Franz Wallraf for the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum (old inv.no. WI_1824_Nr. 333). According to the "Verzeichnis der abgegebenen Gemälde seit Mai 1933" it was destroyed in the night from June 28 to 29, 1943, after a bomb hit the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum. However, the painting was subsequently sold at the auction of the Cologne art and auction house Franz A. Menna (auction no. 122) on June 15-18, 1951, under lot no. 752 from Rhenish ownership.
