The collection included a bundle of watercolours by Paul Klee, drawings by Giovanni Antonio Canaletto, a bundle of watercolours by Wassily Kandinsky, drawings by Pietro Longhi, 53 watercolours by Auguste Rodin, a bundle of large drawings by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, watercolours by Rudolf von Alt, a bundle of drawings by Giambattista Piazzetta, two sheets by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, a bundle of watercolours and drawings by Auguste Renoir, drawings and watercolours by Hubert Robert, 174 watercolours by Paul Signac, 31 early German sheets, 40 washed drawings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo in an album, four sheets (two large and two small sheets) by Francesco Guardi, 34 early Florentine sheets, a bundle of pastel drawings by Edgar Degas, several sheets by Jean Antoine or Louis Joseph Watteau, 30 early Venetian drawings, an anthology by Gabriel de Saint-Aubin and four sheets by Titian.
History
Vienna / Confiscation March 1938
In March 1938, the Gestapo stole the important collection of drawings from Serena Lederer's flat in Vienna and distributed them among Nazi party figures in Munich. To this day, around 1448 works of art are considered lost. Among other things, a large collection of Klee watercolours is being looked for. There may be handwritten notes from the Lederer family on the back, but this is unlikely. As the Gestapo's looting policy was arbitrary, the Lederer provenance was not recorded.
