Description
Part of the upper and lower jaw bone of a whale (probably blue whale?)
No historical label remnants or inscriptions available.
Provenance
It is currently assumed that they are whale bones from the former Hamburg Natural History Museum. In the summer of 1943, crates of bones and other natural objects and books were sent from Hamburg to Rochsburg Castle and Waldenburg Castle. Detailed lists were probably not compiled in the haste of the removal. Not traceable until 1948 as an inventory of the Princely Cabinet of Natural Treasures; first documented photographically in 1948.
