Violoncello
Acquired in Cologne in 1942 by the Reich Ministry of Propaganda from Heinrich Stauber (dealer, mXp s6027) for RM 6,000.
A loss due to Nazi persecution or a loss during World War II cannot be ruled out due to gaps in the provenance.
The attribution of the instrument is uncertain; several transcriptions on slips of paper provide contradictory information. Authentic provenance prior to the documented acquisition by the Reich Ministry of Propaganda at the end of 1942 cannot currently be verified.
This glaring gap in provenance, combined with the RMVP's well-known practice of lending master instruments specifically to musicians loyal to the regime, highlights a clear need for further research.
