Violin
March 1941 – Acquisition
The Gofriller violin is purchased for 23,155 Reichsmark, including bow and case, from the Emil Herrmann company in Berlin/New York (mXp 3031009; mXp h3501).
The buyer is the RMVP (mXp 3070299).
A loss due to Nazi persecution or a loss during World War II cannot be ruled out due to gaps in the provenance.
The provenance of the instrument is not completely clear for the period from 1933 to 1945. There are significant gaps in the provenance that cannot be compensated for by exonerating documents.
In addition, there are indications that suggest that confiscation due to persecution is possible. A final assessment is not possible without further research, in particular into Emil Hermann's business records and the history of the instrument prior to 1941.
