Description
Recto: signed and dated in plate upper left, below in pencil "Portrait de S. Mallarmé par Gauguin" inv. no. "VI b/52/329", "47/1907", recto: centre in pencil "38".
Provenance
20.10.1951: acquired from the art antiquarian Reinhold Puppel, Quedlinburg (formerly Hollstein & Puppel, Berlin). It is not known when and from whom Reinhold Puppel acquired the print. It cannot be ruled out that the print belonged to the old stock of the aryanised art shop Hollstein & Puppel. Reinhold Puppel deliberately traded in cultural property that had been confiscated as a result of Nazi persecution.
