Description
Supported by three seated seahorses and a central post, the round inkwell is shaped like a flat, rising fountain bowl with a tongue relief. Smooth rim above a deep throat. In the centre of the loosely attached, flat, rising lid sits the figure of a naked boy with his left hand raised. Behind him, attached to a ribbon running across his chest, is a round container for the pen holder, open at the top. On the lid, in bas-relief, are three bearded male masks, connected by long strands of hair; on the inside of the lid, Hebrew letters are written in ink: ‘ה ה ל ל’ (Lamet Lamet He He), other parts of the writing have flaked off.
