Esther scroll and roll holder
This is an Esther scroll, as it is read at the Purim celebration. The scroll is very yellowed and discoloured greyish-brown. The parchment is no longer flexible and therefore the scroll can hardly be rolled up.
The roll holder was found separately in the arts and crafts collection / material type wood of the Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum. It had been inventoried as a "fragment" under the name "spindle" in 2004. On the basis of the holes in the thread binding and a thread remnant, a match with the binding of this Esther scroll could be established and the scroll holder assigned to this prayer scroll. A mantle or other parts belonging to this scroll have not been found to date.
