Elbe landscape near Blankenese
This idyllic landscape painting shows a small bay on the Elbe near Blankenese. The water is calm, the sky a summery blue. A track runs along the shallow bank in a gentle curve. Two women in traditional Blankenese costume are standing there, relaxed and together. One of them is looking at three children who seem to be playing with each other on the sandy shore. The bay opens up diagonally behind them, revealing a view of the Elbe river.
The road leads from the shore between densely leafy trees up a hill on which a thatched house can be seen. Reverse: double inv. no. "1936,56" in red colour, 1 yellowed sticker "Gustav Knauer, Berlin | 9880 | Kunst-Abteilung"; new sticker: "Museum f. Hamburgische Geschichte, Inv. Nr. 1936,56 | Titel Elblandschaft b. Blankenese | Artist Bantelmann J.W.D.".
