Description
The rectangular blue tin can has a slot for inserting money at the top. The front is embossed with the monogram "KKL" (Keren Kajemet LeIsrael) and a Star of David with an image of a lion. In addition, there is an inscription on the lower edge of the box. On the back there is also a white Star of David as well as the suspension device. Inside the box, chains are attached to the insertion slot.
Provenance
A digital list of donations to the Historical Museum in Köthen (Anhalt) for the years 1937 to 1942 contains the entry "Sammelbüchse d. Juden f. Wohlfahrtszwecke / blau". The object presumably came to the museum in the course of being handed over to the Gestapo in 1941. Since an Esther scroll probably already found its way from Köthen to the Museum Synagoge Gröbzig as a donation in the early 1960s, it is very likely that this is one and the same donation box.
