Inscription "Exlibris", below: "Monasterii Stams". Inscribed in pencil on the reverse: "Kirchmaier, Innsbruck". Use: Marking a book as property.
Provenance
Purchased in 1987 in a bundle from Dr. H.-D. Grospietsch, Stuttgart. The client and owner of the bookplate was a monastery, Stams Abbey in Tyrol. In 1938/39, the monastery was dissolved and confiscated by the National Socialist rulers and served as a resettlement home for emigrants from South Tyrol. Gap in provenance. Suspicious, as the whereabouts during the National Socialist era are unknown.
