Description
Bismarck letters (probably from his time as dike master, 1844-1850). The inventory numbers clearly marked in black ink or ink could indicate that they originate from the Genthin Museum. They consist of the two-digit number of the year of entry and a consecutive entry number, e.g. 26-146. Two stamps were also used: ‘Museum des Kreises Jerichow II – Genthin’ (Museum of the District of Jerichow II – Genthin) and ‘Kreis Jerichow II – Sippenamt’ (District of Jerichow II – Family Office).
History
These items were probably lost when the museum crates stored in the basement of the manor house in Weteritz, 5 km west of Gardelegen, were looted (1945/1946). Because part of the inventory list has also been lost, it is not possible to describe the missing objects in detail, with the exception of the film negatives. The loss of the films is the most serious. It is possible that this material was seized by the Allies.
