Description

History
The Magdeburg City Archives lost significant holdings from the 15th to early 20th centuries. The main relocation site was shaft 6, ridge 18 of the Neustaßfurt salt mine. According to reports from the document collection 'The Trophy Commissions of the Red Army', the holdings that were transported 'from the mines around Magdeburg' to Berlin and on to the Soviet Union' in 1946 also included holdings from the 'deposit in mine no. 6-7 Atzendorf', including the city archive with around 500 boxes. Pit No. 6-7 Atzendorf is listed on the list of places in which the selection and export of cultural assets for 1946 should be examined, so that Magdeburg city archives may have reached the Soviet Union via this route (p. 121).
