Description
Framed picture of a boatman in the style of a silhouette. Barge with spritsail and Prussian merchant flag in front of a tree-lined shore with a monopteros and a greeting figure. At the lower edge of the picture is the caption: "Laß die Winde stürmen / Ob sich Wogen thürmen / Schiff ich ruhig weiter / Gott ist mein Begleiter / Auf des Lebens Bahn / Jag er meinen Kahn / Wen der Mast auch bricht / Er verläßt mich nicht."
Provenance
Formerly the Guben City Museum. Parts of the collection were apparently evacuated to Kossar (today: Kosierz) in 1942/43. The part of the collection that remained in Guben is said to have been looted between 1945 and 1948 and has been considered lost ever since.
