Description
Sconce in gilt bronze with 9 (later 10) lights, each decorated with cut crystals from Baccarat (Baccara, Nancy), rich Louis XIV décor.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, Georg Building, 2nd floor; The 10 sconces were delivered in 1868 for the Red Room, also known as the “Reception Room”; Listed in inventory no. 1 of 31.01.1920 as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal house of 1924, which were assigned to the state as room inventory marked in red; An exact date for removing is not on record, the salvage activities were completed in the summer of 1944. The sconces were probably removed from stock on 26.04.1944 and taken to the Rammenau Castle relocation site; nothing is known about the circumstances of the loss. A loss in connection with the events of the 2nd World War is suspected.
