Description

The month of March is dedicated to gardening and fishing. On the right is a woman sitting with a child, to her left a gardener raking a flower bed. Three men to the right in the centre ground are standing under a high roof on which two birds are perched. The cartouche in the lower border contains the sign of Aries. To the left, a group of men are busy fishing. A wide landscape with architecture opens up in the background.

According to the inventory of the Hofbettmeisterey 1769: 4.295 m x 3.398 m (7 cubits 14 inches high and 6 cubits wide). The height generally given for the series as 7 cubits 14 inches, i.e. 4.295 m in the written sources, is to be regarded as ideal. It can be assumed that there were differences of at least ± 10 cm.

Provenance
Until 1942 in Dresden Castle, Small Dining Hall, east wing, 2nd floor; on August 16/17, 1943, the 8 tapestry rolls were transported to Schleinitz Palace, as an inspection on June 8, 1943, led to the conclusion that the rooms in the Green Vault were not sufficiently protected against bombing raids; A loss in connection with the events of WWII cannot be ruled out (according to the files, loss at the relocation site).
