Description
Two vase-shaped candlesticks (or chandeliers) part of a Boulle fireplace triptych (fireplace set). They each have nine lighting outlets and are elaborately decorated.
Provenance
The candleholders were delivered in 1868 as furnishings for the second floor of the Georgen Building of the Dresden Castle for the Red Silk Room. As part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal family in 1924, the vase lamps became part of the inventory of the Free State of Saxony. They were removed during the war (relocations were completed in the summer of 1944) and presumably taken to Rammenau Palace. The whereabouts of the candleholders are unknown. It is assumed that they were lost in connection with the events of the Second World War.
