Ornamental pattern in predominantly pale green, violet and beige
Provenance
Collection Margret and Ludwig Kainer, Berlin, by 1932; confiscated in 1935 as consequence of Nazi persecution; 31 May 1935 auction Leo Spik, Berlin, lot no. 127, illustration plate 17, sold; Office of Joachim von Ribbentrop, Reich Foreign Minister, Foreign Ministry (Wilhelmstrasse), Berlin, purchased in France during the Occupation; found in December 1945 by the British services at Château Lulianka, near Itzehoe, a town north-west of Hamburg; returned to Paris on 15 December 1949 in the fifth convoy (?) from Hamburg, then included on the list of works made available to national museums by the OBIP; selected by the Fifth Commission for the Selection of Works for Artistic Recovery on 25 October 1950, taken in charge by the Direction des Musées de France and entrusted to the care of the Musée du Louvre (Department of Works of Art) in 1951; then listed in the OAR (Objets d'Art Récupération) inventory, compiled by Hubert Landais, under number OAR 540, deposited with the Mobilier National in 1965; the carpet returned to the Musée du Louvre's Objets d'Art department on 2 October 2003; currently held in the department's reserves.
