Description

On a high pedestal. The bronzes exist in different sizes and versions. Early French versions (from 1832), probably cast from a lost model by Antonio Canova, tend to be around 41 cm high. However, the cast of the object we are looking for appears to be more similar in type and height to later Italian versions (1850/1900), which have survived as reduced versions of the original in sizes ranging from 63 to 90 cm.

Collection Gustav von Klemperer, Dresden; whereabouts unknown; seizure due to National Socialist persecution cannot be ruled out.
