Description
Portrait of a middle-aged man; "Gebhard Werner is seen wearing a long grey allonge wig. In the picture he has turned his head slightly to the right. He is wearing dark armour, a white scarf around his neck and a probably dark red velvet cape over his left shoulder. With his left hand he is leaning on his helmet." (Hammerschmidt 2001); on the belt a rapier, of which only the hilt can be seen.
Provenance
Old family property; before 1942 Wolfsburg Castle (until 1932 Gardelegen District, Province of Saxony; then Gifhorn District, Province of Hanover; today Wolfsburg City); then moved to the newly built Neumühle Castle near Tangeln, municipality of Beetzendorf in the Altmark District of Salzwedel, where it is located: "Hall, 2nd upper floor". Left behind in 1945 when leaving Neumühle Castle in flight before it was taken over by the Red Army; Neumühle Castle was assigned to the Soviet occupation zone and expropriated; whereabouts unknown
