Painting

There are two paintings, one with mountain hikers against a rocky backdrop, the second with cows in a pasture. The first picture can be attributed with great certainty to Ferdinand Hodler and has been confirmed as such by family members. The second painting has also been labelled as Hodler by the owners' daughter-in-law. The paintings were part of the inventory of the Heyden family's house at Leichhardtstr. 53 in Berlin-Dahlem. The family was no longer able to enter the house after the end of the war, as they were flown out to West Germany by the British immediately after the cessation of hostilities in order to reinstate Wilhelm Heyden in his position as chairman of Preussenelektra. The house was used as a casino for the American armed forces and the pictures have been lost ever since.
