Description

Signed and dated on the bottom left: „L. E. Vigée | Le Brun | Petersbourg 1797“; the wife of Grand Duke Constantine of Russia, born princess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1781 - 1860), in a grey dress, her arms wrapped in a red shawl over her chest, wearing a dark blue, red-trimmed velvet cap with a white feather on her head, turned to the right in youthful vivaciousness, glancing at the beholder; depicted knee-length in front of a grey, cloudy background.

1935 in reorganized exhibition (file 3405); May 31, 1935 in register of the nationally valuable art monuments (ThHStA Weimar, C 1624, fol. 68, 139); 1943 in Reinhardsbrunn (catalog 1943, bl. 415); lost at the end of January 1946 in Reinhardsbrunn Palace; current location: Pushkin Museum Moscow,Object 101033, No. ЭЖ-824 (87 x 71 cm); shown at the exhibition 'Kriegsbedingt verbrachte Kulturgüter' in spring 1995 in Moscow at the Pushkin Museum.
