Black frame. Signed.
Provenance
Originally owned by claimant's father, who resided at Schwindtgasse 12, Vienna, and mentioned in an inventory of property that he attempted to take with him to Paris when he fled in 1938. The painting as well as several other artworks were shipped to Paris in three vans and stored at Bedell & Co. (a forwarder) at Pantin outside of Paris. Since claimant's father did not obtain the requisite “Carte d’Identité” after arriving in France and lacked the money to pay the exorbitant duty, the vans remained there and were seized by the Germans in 1942 under the “M” Aktion and transported to Germany.
